Philip Rivers to the Bucs? His family is moving to Florida
If the Bucs are looking for a less turnover-prone alternative to Jameis Winston, Rivers might make an odd choice.

Philip Rivers said he is moving his family to Florida to be closer to relatives in Alabama amid speculation that his days as the Chargers quarterback are over.
“What this means football-wise is to be determined but it was time for us to move back closer to home,” Rivers said Sunday in a text message reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.
What the move means football-wise could conceivably relate to the Buccaneers, who have yet to commit to Jameis Winston. The former No. 1 overall pick in 2015, who turned 26 on Jan. 6, owns virtually every franchise passing record but is coming off the first 30-touchdown pass, 30-interceptions season in NFL history.
Rivers, 38, took over as the Chargers starter in 2006, promptly led them to four straight AFC West titles and hasn’t missed a start since. The Chargers went 12-4 in 2018 and defeated Baltimore in the wild-card round but slipped to 5-11 this season and were winless in the AFC West.
If the Bucs are looking for a more efficient passer, Rivers may not be their first choice. He threw 23 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions in 2019, when his total quarterback rating slipped to 48.9, second-lowest of his career. Winston’s 2019 quarterback rating was 57.1.
Absolutely agree.....was Winston's 1st year in a complex Arians system give the guy some time. Rivers is just playing out his career now he won't be getting any team to a Super Bowl. His best chances are wayyyyyy behind him now. The LT days were his best chances didn't happen
Tampa Bay's brass are tired of Winston (30 Ints 2019) and will draft a quarterback in
the coming draft. Jacob Eason (Washington) is the QB they are interesting in and could
get him in the first round #14 or if Eason slips to the second round at #46. Bringing in
38 year old Rivers makes perfect sense because he could bridge the gap while getting
Eason ready to play. Strong rumors floating around the Senior Bowl he's headed to the
Bucs. We shall see...………………….
Arians post season comments regarding Winston and the QB situation were far far from an endorsement. Just by that short comment I'd be surprised if Winston was back as the starter. Arians might think he has a Superbowl type roster and QB is holding them down. If thats the case and the team is "ready now" it might make sense to give Rivers a shot. You talent window only last so long, they have been collecting young talent for years, it might be their time to go all in.
Detroit is sitting pretty at #3 where Tua and Herbert will both be available. You'd have to think teams like Miami, La Chargers, Carolina, Raiders, and Tampa Bay might all consider giving up a bunch of picks to move up to take their franchise QB. It's going to be interesting to see where Winston lands, Chicago maybe?
